Introduction/Immigration
"In immigrant communities, culture takes on a special significance: not only does it form a lifeline to the home coun- try and a basis for group identity in a new country, it is also a base from which immigrants stake their political and sociocultural claims on their new country." by Yen Le Espiritu’s "We Don't Sleep around like White Girls Do."
This video gives a quick and simple introduction about Carlos Gamboa. After is how immigration works and the process of doing it.
He came here for a new and better life. Migrating here, he made a second home starting his own family and having a job with more pay. With his salary, he could provide for his family in California and in the Philippines.
"Despite periodic downturns, California's economy, by conventional measures of growth, expanded during the 1970s and 1980s" (pg.404). Competing Visions: a History of California
